Google's Search Console now has a Generative AI performance report. TechWyse reports that it rolled out to websites worldwide as of 31 August 2026, giving shops their first official measure of how often their pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
What the Report Shows
The metric is generative AI impressions, counted when a link to your site appears in a supported AI feature. You can break it down by page, country, device and date. That is enough to answer a useful question: which of your product, category and guide pages Google's AI features are surfacing.
What It Leaves Out
| Question | Does the report answer it? |
|---|---|
| How many impressions came from AI features? | Yes |
| Which pages appeared? | Yes |
| AI Overviews versus AI Mode separately? | No, the two are combined |
| Clicks, click-through rate or position from AI? | No, impressions only |
| Which queries triggered the appearance? | No |
Google's AI features documentation adds that clicks from AI features are counted in the normal Performance report under the Web search type. That means AI clicks are mixed in with ordinary clicks, so you can't isolate them there either.
How To Use It
- Find your AI-visible pages. Sort by impressions and note which page types appear: products, categories or guides.
- Compare with your commercial priorities. If AI features surface a guide but not the category it should lead to, link them properly and make the category page stronger.
- Check the setting. Under Settings, Search generative AI, a separate control sets whether your content is eligible for AI features. It doesn't control reporting.
- Connect it to revenue. Impressions are not sales. Track conversions in Google Analytics and read both together, as Google recommends.
The report may not appear for sites with too few generative AI impressions, and the rollout is still going, so a missing report isn't a fault on your side. For the broader approach to AI visibility, see GEO for Ecommerce.
